Top Five Teams to look out for in this season’s English Premier League.



It is a no-brainer that when it comes to the English Premier League teams like Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea and more recently Liverpool and Tottenham will occupy the top five position. We cannot completely rule out Arsenal from the equation since apart from last two years they have always had the reputation of a top four team before this rule became the exception.

This seasons Premier League is slated to open on the 10th August, 2018 and already people are anticipating which manager will win the prestigious title.  The previous title having been won by Guardiola’s Manchester City sets him up for greater exploits. People will also be looking out for Jose Mourinho’s Manchester United which placed second last season. People are tipping Manchester United to at least win the Premier League this season and also at least get to the semi-finals of the Champions’ League but wishes as we know are not horses.

Chelsea maybe the underdog in this season’s Premier League, their performance last year was not the best to speak of. Having multiple of streaks of bad luck, they trailed the fourth positioned Liverpool by five solid points. This was one of the reasons that necessitated the sacking of their coach, Antonio Conte. Chelsea’s new coach, Maurizio Sarri has a lot of prove in this season’s title. Chelsea is a team with a reputation of performing greatly under a new coach and eroding their successes the following year. Based on this trend, it is extremely easy to tip Chelsea to at least feature in the top four position in order to help them qualify for the next season’s Champion’s League.

Arsenal too will be a team to watch this season. Arsene Wenger who was the coach for Arsenal for 22 years left the team at the end of the season and Unai Emery. For those who are less than 30 years, they can’t imagine an Arsenal without Arsene Wenger. So this new season is to test if Arsene Wenger was the bad manager or the team Arsenal is not a good team. With a new face in Arsenal, it is extremely difficult to predict Arsenal’s new direction but what is certain is that this year come what may, they should feature in the top four else Unai will be in very big trouble.

Liverpool is definitely one of the best teams to watch this season. To begin, they are one of the most successful teams in the English Premier League but for the last eleven years they have been anything but consistent. Take for instance in 2008, they occupied the 2nd position only to end the Premier League on the 7th position, they took the 6th position in 2010 then climbed up to the 8th position in 2011. Then in 2012 they were 7th, the following year they were 2nd. In 2014 they slipped to the 6th position. In 2015 they ended the league occupying the 8th position. In 2016, they finished on the 4th position and in 2017 they finished on the 4th position. 2016 and 2017 represent the only two years they have been consistent. Even in the times they weren’t consistent they should great potentials. Liverpool is however so a big team not to tip.

Then is Tottenham. They are the most underrated football team in the English Premier League. Year in and year out, they have been a threat to most of the big teams in the league. From 2010 up to 2017 they have occupied between the 4th to 6th positions. This makes them a threat to any likely big team which wants to occupy the 4th position.

As to who will win the Premier League cup, only time will tell but the probability of Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Tottenham occupying the top five position is high.
